Recently, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) publicized the 2023 Demonstration List for the Integrated Development of New-Generation Information Technology and Manufacturing, with two projects from Nanhai District making the cut. Among them, Wayes Custom was selected for the “Digital Navigator” enterprise demonstration list — one of only 28 enterprises nationwide, the sole selection from Foshan and one of only two from Guangdong Province.

Foshan’s Only “Digital Navigator” Award Goes to Nanhai

The national-level “Digital Navigator” enterprise status awarded to Wayes Custom this time is remarkable not only for its scarcity — just 28 enterprises nationwide — but more importantly for what it signifies.

In recent years, MIIT has promoted the “Digital Navigator” enterprise demonstration direction, evaluating companies’ digital transformation across multiple dimensions to select manufacturing digitalization benchmarks with strong technical capabilities, excellent business models, modern management philosophies, and high quality and efficiency — enterprises entrusted with leading the way for manufacturing.

“Digital Navigator” enterprises are hailed as China’s answer to “Lighthouse Factories” — national “flags” planted in the field of manufacturing digitalization and “lighthouses” guiding and driving industrial transformation.

Wayes Custom has been a pioneer and trendsetter in digital and intelligent transformation. Next to the big-data platform dashboard at Wayes’ Plant No. 5, a complete “digital home furnishing symbiotic ecosystem” is on display — ten major categories and more than 5,000 products enabling whole-home furnishing.

Wayes Custom has achieved multiple industry firsts: through digital empowerment, it has realized large-scale standardized production of customized furniture, with a material utilization rate exceeding 93%; it has evolved from humans directing machines to machines directing humans, and is steadily advancing toward machines directing machines; and it has shifted from selling furniture to selling digital labels — the “Wayes Model” is leading the trend of the home customization industry.

In recent years, Wayes has invested more than RMB 563 million in digital and intelligent projects to realize its efficient, large-scale personalized customization business model. Wayes has resolved the contradiction between personalized customization and mass production. Compared with traditional furniture enterprises: order cycle time has been shortened from 30 days to 5 days; the comprehensive material utilization rate reaches 93%, 7 percentage points higher than the industry average; production efficiency has improved by more than 300%; the error rate has dropped from 30% to under 1%; and zero inventory has been achieved.

The benchmark value of Wayes Custom lies not only in enterprise demonstration, but also in the collaborative digital ecosystem it has built across the industry chain, providing a model for upgrading China’s pan-home furnishing supply chain.

Wayes has partnered with platform service providers, industrial internet application service providers, and industry associations to form a service-provider consortium and build a custom furnishing industrial internet platform. Currently, the custom furnishing industry cluster led by Wayes Custom as the “chain leader” comprises nearly 570 direct supply-chain member enterprises and thousands of ecosystem enterprises across the industry chain. The cluster has signed digital collaborative transformation strategic cooperation agreements with 24 upstream and downstream enterprises, is continuously cultivating 12 enterprises for digital transformation, and has already seen 4 pilot enterprises implement digitalization projects with initial success.
